Understanding MAGO Therapy A Doctor’s Perspective

As a bioesthetic dentist at Chittenden Dental in Burlington, I’ve had the honor of helping many patients rediscover health, comfort, and balance through a remarkable therapeutic tool known as MAGO Therapy.

I’m Dr. Mike Morris, and I’d like to share with you exactly what this therapy entails. In addition I will show you how it works. I will also show you why it can make such a powerful difference.

What Is a MAGO?

The MAGO, short for Maxillary Anterior Guided Orthotic, is a highly specialized dental orthotic that’s custom-designed to support and guide the jaw into a healthy, balanced position. Unlike night guards or sports mouthguards, a MAGO is not meant to simply protect teeth. It’s also designed to allow your jaw joints (TMJs) to function in the most optimal way possible.

It may surprise some to learn that your jaw position can directly affect the health of your head, neck, and even posture. By achieving proper alignment and function through the MAGO, we’re able to restore orthopedic stability starting with your teeth and radiating throughout your entire system.

It’s important to understand that MAGO is not a disease or a diagnosis. It is a therapeutic tool used to evaluate and treat the dynamic relationship between your joints, muscles, and bite.

How MAGO Therapy Works

MAGO Therapy is a non-invasive and reversible process, but it requires dedication and consistency. Once your MAGO is carefully fabricated and fitted, you’ll need to wear it 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including during meals. This continuous wear is essential, as it allows your jaw joints to begin to, “go home,” to gradually return to their natural, physiologic rest position without external interferences.

Throughout this journey, we’ll also schedule a series of precise adjustment appointments. Each visit allows us to track your progress.

The Power of Diagnosis Through Function

What makes MAGO Therapy so powerful is not just the relief it provides but also the clarity it brings. When the jaw is in a stable position, we can observe how your body responds. Is your pain diminishing? Are headaches less frequent? Is your bite functioning more smoothly?

This process provides critical diagnostic information that can’t be obtained through X-rays or exams alone. It allows us to determine whether additional treatment such as orthodontics, restorative dentistry, or bite adjustment is needed. Ultimately, our goal is to design a long-term, stable, and esthetic solution.

Why Choose MAGO Therapy

At Chittenden Dental, we take a whole-system approach to dental care. As a bioesthetic dentist, my work focuses on restoring the harmony between teeth, muscles, joints, and airway. MAGO Therapy plays a crucial role in helping us identify imbalances and begin the healing process.

We don’t just treat symptoms. We aim to understand and correct the root causes. If you’re living with jaw discomfort, migraines, or even unexplained neck and shoulder pain, the problem may begin with your bite.

Begin Your Journey to Wellness

If you’re curious about whether MAGO Therapy is right for you, I encourage you to schedule a consultation. Firstly, you’ll feel better about yourself, secondly, your health will thank you for it.
